Another couple of stories told!

Hi scrappy peeps! I've been playing a little bit over at Whimsical Musings, where there is a 100th Post Challenge going on! Participants have til Sept. 16th to get their layouts in, so get on over there and have fun!

Here's what I created for the Whimsical Musings Centenary challenge (WM #100):
"But She's Home Now" layout

(WM #100)

The little chipboard flowers are APPLE BLOSSOMS. Apples are a major crop and traditional emblem here in the Annapolis Valley area of NS. :)

XYZ is the initial of the lady who gave us the piano- I cannot  state her name as her CLIENT gave the piano to her and it would be a breach of confidentiality somewhere down the line. The XYZ initials are explained  on the LO's reverse for my family. :)

Journaling:

She's between 85-100 years old & may even have seen TWO World Wars. Who Knows?  69-84 years are unaccounted-for...
"Upright Orchestral Grand" Manufactured by Amherst Pianos Ltd.  1913-1928... in Amherst, NS
"Gap" of 69-84 years...
Until approx. 1997... Bought at auction by family in XYZ, Kings Co., NS,     who also had a sheep farm.
Approx. 1998: Piano given to XYZ's's client whose daughter was taking piano lessons.
Approx. 2003: XYZ's client GAVE her the piano & an SPCA donation was made (in exchange).  Sept 2011: XYZ's sons were no longer playing. She found the piano a home.
January 2012: Piano came to us on a horse trailer-----> (Gives our address in Kings Co., NS). Local moving companies dropped the ball!

Supplies:

All cardstock, patterned papers, both types of lettering, and inks: Close To My Heart.
White gel pen: Uniball Signo- Broad tip
Apple Blossoms & flourish chip stickers- BasicGrey Curio collection

Then I went ahead and told a couple of other stories that needed recording.

These are both 8 1/2 x 11" pages and will go in the big album beside the 12 x 12" page seen above.

"Happiness is Homemade" layout
Whimsical Musings Challenge #100-3
(WM #100-3)
Journaling:

I wanted to do something nice for the person who gave us the piano and the folks who came to help Daddy move it.
I used a tried and true, FAVE recipe for Sugar Cookies. I tripled the batch. It was hard ‘cause kitchen stuff is tough on me – I admit that my legs were really tired afterward. Luckily, they cooperated for most of the work time!  Made over 150 cookies and gave almost all of them away, much to the kids’ dismay! (LOL)
The gal who gave us the piano told me in an email that she had to stop herself from eating those delicious cookies for BREAKFAST!

SUGAR COOKIES

1 cup margarine
1 c white sugar
1 egg
2 cups all purpose  flour
2 tsp Cream of Tartar
1 tsp soda
dash salt
1 tsp vanilla

Mix all ingredients.
Roll into 1” balls, roll balls in sugar.
Press down gently with a fork.
Bake 10-12 min at 350 degrees.

"Only in the Valley" layout
Whimsical Musings Challenge #100-6
(WM #100-6)
Supplies for the two pages above:

All cardstock, patterned papers, lettering, and inks: Close To My Heart
Horse punch: Regal
Cork medallion (used as a title block): CTMH
Stamps: CTMH "Country Born" set: D1543
'Kissing' horses a scrap fabric swatch - I frayed the edges to make it more sturdy & to fit this layout.

Journaling:

Only in the Annapolis Valley would a PIANO be delivered on a HORSE TRAILER.

Yes, the Amherst Upright Orchestral Grand Piano that had been given to us was brought to our home in Kingston from Berwick---- using a horse trailer!
TY to M.J. for the loan of her trailer- otherwise “The Old Girl” (as I call her) may never have arrived at her final destination!

Notes placed on the back of this LO:

1. Some of the guys from Daddy’s work at 14 Wing Greenwood came to help move the piano, which weighed 600 lbs.

2. The piano, given to us by  XYZ was a real treat. Although it’s been 20 years since I TOUCHED a piano, I’m hoping to get some of my piano-playing skills back

These are NOTHING FANCY but a few more stories were told in the process. :) I feel really good about that!

Be sure to hop on over to Whimsical Musings and play with us- it's a nice little spot for Challenges!
Oh, and I should probably mention that there is a prize for the Whimsical Musings Centenary Celebration! Lots of fun! Get those LOs in by Sept 16th-->See you there!

Summer fun!

Hi everyone!!

Since it is so gorgeous here in NS- it's the middle of summer, and it's our "family birthday season" again (Bryan: July 28th, and Daniel: August 4th) I'd like to share some LOs I created of the kids enjoying 1) Daniel's birthday, and 2) the backyard pool. These LOs were JUST created the past few weeks and are all from last summer!
Here you go!
"B'day Bliss '12'"
Journaling reads: Daniel, we celebrated your 12th birthday in August 2012 with a pool party for some of your friends. It was a hot, beautiful summery day. Before we went outside, there were gifts and a delicious DQ ice-cream cake depicting a big green sea turtle to celebrate summer. The turtle on the cake also commemorated your Leatherback Sea Turtle project from Grade 6.

"Gifts, Cake- 2012"
 [Daniel's 12th birthday]

"Play Hard"
Pool party fun!

"Swim, Play, Enjoy"
August 4th, 2012 pool playtime: birthday fun!

"Most Favourite"
Journaling reads:  Daniel told us that the most favourite part of the birthday party, for him, was swimming with his friends.  :)
It was obvious that ALL the kids had a blast playing ball, goofing around in the pool and enjoying the sun-- it was a beautiful day!
How awesome to have a pool in your own backyard!

"Enthusiastic"
Journaling reads: Daniel said the kids all enjoyed playing “Monkey in the Middle” with the red ball when they were swimming! They swam for about an hour before it was time to head home. This was a “definitely will-be-repeated-party” idea!

"Cool Pool Time"
 Noah in the pool!

"$-Store Shark"
More pics of Noah-- and the shark!
Journaling reads: The “Dollar store” shark gave the kids SO MUCH extra fun in the pool! They swam with him, “rode” him, chased one another with him and generally had him within arm’s reach the entire time they were in the pool. In the summer of 2012, we had a bigger (15’) pool and they had a blast with Mr. Shark yet again! Not bad-- for a dollar!

Photos of Noah: August 2012

Hope you have all enjoyed these watery-fun layouts! Have a super day...
What's coming next? A horse/riding layout, and some pics of the Prom 2012 mini-album that I created for Kate!
See you soon!
